For starters we are so excited you are considering adding a Hansen Retriever to your family! Please read the follow information regarding our process, what to expect along the way, and our policies below. Thank you!

All puppies are sold as pet/companions with AKC Limited Registration ONLY.
Reserving a puppy
Potential puppy buyers are expected to complete our application process. We do this to get to know a bit about our potential families and find out if we are the right fit for you. We have an application that must be filled out completely as the first step in our process. Once an application is filled out, reviewed, and approved we will contact you for the next steps. *Before filling out an application please review our Sales Agreement and Health Guarantee* (see below)
Steps
1. Read about our program, review our website to be sure we are the breeder for you. Understand out process and what to expect.
2. Review Sales Agreement and Health Guarantee
3. Fill out application - this helps us get to know you and what you are looking for.
4. We will contact you via email to answer any questions you may have.
5. Once approved - you will place a non-refundable reservation fee of $500 and send us a filled out copy of our reservation agreement.
6. Congrats! You will be officially added to our Master Waitlist.
Please expect to be placed on our Master Waitlist, in which we do require a reservation fee to join.
Reservation fees are $500 and are non-refundable.
The reservation fee will go towards the total cost of the puppy.
We only have about 2-3 litters a year and are not in the business to mass producing puppies. Most of our puppies are already reserved by the time they are born. The wait can be anywhere form 6-12 months, but I ensure you the wait is worth it! When it comes to placing our puppies in homes; they are placed/chosen in order that the deposits are received. If you are wanting a specific color/gender then I'd strongly recommend you get on our list ASAP. If a litter doesnt work for you - you can defer and move to a future litter and you will still remain at the top of our list.
No reservation fee/deposit placed means you will not added to the Master Waitlist. I have families willing to wait for the right puppy (this can take months) and others that want a puppy now, but unfortunately with breeding it takes time and patience.
DISCLAIMER:
My #1 goal is to make this entire process easy, so please do not be difficult. Aside from being a breeder I am also a Mother and do not have time to waste reviewing applications, tracking down emails, just to get ghosted. This has happened one too many times. Which is why I created a PUPPY INFORMATION page. Almost all questions should be answered below. If after reviewing you still have questions, please reach out via email before filling out an application. Pricing for litters can also be found at the top of this page. I've had people fill out applications without even bothering to review information regarding the prices on our puppies and will still ask a price of a puppy, then I get ghosted. I am very transparent when it comes to displaying our prices. I do not hide or surprise you later with a price. So again, DO NOT apply if you are not ready, period. I do not want to waste your time, but I do not want my time wasted as well. I am plenty of people who are serious about getting a puppy and willing to go through and trust the process. If that is not you, then please do not apply. Only reach out if you are TRULY interested in getting one of our puppies. Thank you for understanding.

We are so excited and honored you have chosen Hansen Retrievers and can't wait for you to join our family!
Once the application if filled out, deposit has been received, and all required forms have been filled out we will notify you once litter is planned. We will work our way down the waitlist and confirm timing of litters.
Once the breeding process has occurred we will notify families and update along the process; breeding/ultrasound/x-ray, etc. The fun part! Once a litter arrives safely we will update families weekly with photos and litter information. We love involving our families along the way and do our best to make this entire process as easy as possible!
Choosing a puppy
Once our puppies are between 6-7 weeks old we will begin the selection process. At this point we this point we will decide which pup we will keep back for our program as a future hopeful and which pups will make wonderful companions for our families. Shortly after we will notify families and they can begin making their selections (typically between 6-7 weeks via Facetime. Unless we have prior arrangements, then selections will take place the same time as the scheduled go home day). We will also let you know a bit about their personalities, but I tell all families the same thing - no matter what you will get the puppy that is meant for you and you will love the, unconditionally! Every puppy always ends up exactly where they are meant to be!
There will be occasions with certain litters where puppies will not be chosen until the scheduled go home day. We work with some service dog organizations and in order for them to choose they perform their own evaluations and choose the puppies accordingly. Please keep in mind that this does NOT mean they are taking the best puppies. Not all dogs are meant to be service dogs, most of our dogs simply go to families for companions. So far it has worked out well and every family has taken the puppy they were meant to have.
From the moment our puppies are born they are handled and raised by us with endless amounts of love. In the time we get to know our puppies temperaments/personalities we can also begin helping families get matched with their ideal companion. We will keep your preferences in mind, but match puppies with families to ensure they are a good match for one another and will thrive in their homes. Information regarding temperaments will be emailed to families prior to the scheduled go home day (weekend closest to when they reach 8-9 weeks old). On that same day puppies will go home to their forever families.

How do you raise your puppies?

Where do you raise your puppies?
We have a room dedicated to whelping puppies in our home right next to our bedroom. The puppies spend the first 3 weeks in the whelping box and once they begin walking around a bit better we begin to move them to our living room/kitchen where they are able to see the everyday things that happen in a normal household. When weather permits as well puppies have a huge play area outside where they can get some supervised play time and romp around.
What type of Labradors do you breed?
We breed English labradors, though some of our girls have been a bit more petite than in the past. We are excited because we are breeding with the goal to have your more standard bench bred/English Labradors. We have had a few litters of your true bench bred labs and so far they have just been absolutely stunning!
When is final payment due?
Final payment is due by 6 weeks of age. We accept payments via Zelle, Venmo, or cash.
Pricing
The PET PRICE of our labradors ranges from $3000 - $3500, depending on the litter planned, sire used, titles, etc. Pricing for certain litters will reflect on our upcoming litters page. Golden Retriever puppies to be determined (first litter anticipated to arrive mid 2024).

Visiting our home
Unfortunately, no. We DO NOT allow visitations prior to the scheduled go home day due to health concerns/parvo/and general safety of our children and home. Our puppies health is our #1 priority. We like to give them a few weeks to build an immunity after they are given their first vaccine at 6 weeks of age, so for this reason, no prior visitations are allowed. We will however post often on our Instagram and can FaceTime families as well! :) We thank you kindly for understanding.
AKC Limited Registration
Our puppies are sold with AKC Limited Registration and placed in pet/companion homes. Therefore they are NOT sold for breeding. All of our puppies are sold on a strict spay/neuter contract that must be performed between 18-24 months of age and proof must be provided to us as well.

Health Guarantee/Sales Contract
We provide a one year health guarantee against life threatening congenital defects (existing at birth). All of our puppies are sold on a strict spay/neuter contracts. Once puppies have been selected the contract will be sent via Docusign.
Picking up your puppy
Puppies will be scheduled to go home on the weekend closest to when the puppies are between 8-9 weeks old. I will email families the week of with pick up times and my address. Puppy pick ups will take place on the weekend closest to when the pups are 8 weeks old and is usually broken up between Saturday and Sunday morning. We do morning picks ups, so that pups have the remainder of the day to settle.
*If you cannot pick up your weekend on the scheduled weekend then a fee of $35/day will apply for additional boarding, which does not include additional vaccines and/or food.
If you are in CA then you can pick up from our home. If you are out of state; we can arrange pick up at our nearest airport (either Oakland or Sacramento) and you can fly your puppy back with you in cabin. Additional fee will apply if we need to meet you at the airport. We are happy to offer flying your puppy to you if you are in the US. We know amazing flight nannies whose job is to fly your puppy to you stress free - additional fees will apply.
We also offer driving the puppy to you if you are in CA or surrounding state for an additional fee depending on location.
Are you parent dogs health tested?
Absolutely, our parents are FULLY health tested parents (Genetic testing as well as OFA hips, elbows, patella, heart, and eyes). Links to their testing can be found on our Mamas page.
Labrador colors
Labradors only come in 3 colors; yellow, black, and chocolate.
We do not breed "silver"and or "charcoal" labs and are happy to produce puppies who are dilute free.
Here at Hansen Retrievers our main focus is on yellow and black labradors.
We know some people have a certain preference in color, but with each breeding we cannot guarantee a certain color. For instance yellow puppies can range from a very light cream color all the way to fox red (dark yellow).
We do not place puppies in homes soley based on color. We know that plays a role and will do our very best to help match you with the puppy of your choice, but there is more to choosing a puppy other than color and gender! Our goal is to provide families with a companion that will fit in perfectly with their family and lifestyles.
